i’m a programmer myself, working with great range of platforms
and i use ps3 for playing games in the small amount free time i can allocate for playing games; and so i want to play them with my friends; btw, what has Valve done to the hackers, when they destroyed their steam-to-ps3 effort? Valve is one of the most professional game developer companies, working hard to get the best to players and hackers punished them for that by disabling PSN on the day of EU release of Portal2… great work!

On PC and Xbox you actually can develop your own homebrew. If you don’t know how, someone will do for us.

For Xbox you can buy a kind of license e start programming your games (some of them are pretty cool).
For PS3 there is MultiMAN, i’m satisfied with my games so i haven’t downloaded any games yet. But with Multiman you have a faster GUI than XMB, support for a lot a video formats (actualy Xbox can play more video than PS3) and old roms! People like me that started playing with the SNES are habby to be able to play again DonkeyKong Contry and othet epic games.

Sadly the only deal Sony is probably offering is the same that Geohot what if I remember rightly was that he can never again resume any hacking work on Sony products.
What in the case of graf is to restore a product that Sony advertised then later removed and as graf has said he can’t help himself and he feels this is right as do I. Allot of people bought the PS3 with the intention of using Linux on it as well as play games I don’t own a PS3 nor will I ever consider buying a single Sony product now cos of how they are treating people like graf.

To answer your other reply about why would someone spend so much money just use linux. Its not about just being able to run linux, it’s about being able to use the console as it was intended when I bought it. I bought a PS3 on launch day over the 360 because it had extra functions such as linux.
Sony took away what I purchased with 1 Firmware update. I had to choose between linux or playing newer PS3 games.

I’m not sure if you noticed but pirated games on the PS3 already became available even without the OtherOS function. Initially, my PS3 was my only computer at home running Yellow Dog Linux for accessing emails and web-surfing. It was more than enough for what I need to do on a computer. But after they removed that functionality, I had to buy another computer.
If they thought that there was a security vulnerability with the OtherOS feature, perhaps they could have just patched it instead of completely removing that feature. I was quite upset by their action. To me it was like buying a car with the GPS feature. Then there was a recall to remove the GPS because it could potentially make the entire car not run properly, and also not providing any partial refunds. Sony took out an advertised feature. Instead of fixing the problem, they completely got rid of the feature. To me, at the time, OtherOS was one of the biggest selling point of purchasing the PS3 vs 360/Wii.

Gimme a break! PSN was taken down for a month by spoiled brats who didn’t get their way. What does that tell you about these people? This restored feature you guys speak of by the way is a gateway to hacking PSN and you know this, even if you have good intentions. There’s a thousand more that don’t have good intentions. They choose to abuse this restored feature to mess around with the PSN service to cheat on multiplayer games and get free trophies and ban any PSN members they like, but what what do you care? You wanna use Linux on your PS3.
The bottom line is you own your system. You bought it. It’ your property, but you don’t own the service and your hacking of the system effects the service. You know this, but you guys keep hiding behind, oh I just wanna install things for my own personal use. This isn’t the Atari or the NES. The PS3 uses a service. Do I really have to explain this?
Graf doesn’t even own a PSN account so he isn’t using there “service” as you put it. People don’t need a PS3 to hack PSN and theoretically it is possible to do when your PS3 is in Linux mode since it will run just like an every day PC but it would be so much simpler and probably quicker to hack Sony from your PC rather than your PS3 and I highly doubt you could even connect to the PSN as normal while you have otherOS running so it would not increase peoples ability’s to cheat on multilayer games or get free trophies
I didn’t say Graf was using the service. I’m talking about people who want to hack the service via PS3. They’re out there and this hack is a gateway for newcomers interested in hacking the PSN. If you can add anything you like to the PS3. You can add software. Software that could be created down the line. That software can be used to exploit not only the service but play free games. Which is already happening. Remember hacking and modding is ever-evolving. Once you give the world the key. You open up all kinda of possibilities, some positive and some negative.
ANYTHING can be used to hack PSN or any other online service, use your computer, your ipod, your wii, your PAYtv box, your appletv, some tvs could even be used, anything that runs software (and has the basic hardware capabilities of course) can be used to hack the psn, ffs you id you could install an OS to your toaster you could use it to hack PSN. So what does what your saying have to do with the ps3??
