BOUNCE-BACK MENTALITY The best goalies know they′re going to have bad goals and more bad games. In an 82-game season it′s impossible not to. They can shrug it off and not let it get to them. Positive self-talk and a positive attitude are the keys to this. Goalies get scored on but there is no point in letting it bother you. This is the time of year when the days get shorter and the temperatures drop. The hockey season is in full swing and it sometimes feels like there's no end in sight. It can be hard to keep the energy levels up and the enthusiasm high among players parents and coaches. Here are a few tips to keep your eye on what's important.
Leg Pads. The following is a four-step guide to determine the size of a goaltender′s pads : Step 1 – Goaltender's skate size Step 2 – Measure from the floor to the middle of the kneecap Step 3 – Measure from the middle of the kneecap to desired height on thigh Step 4 – Add steps 1 2 and 3 for estimated size of leg pad.
Enthusiasm is contagious. If you find it hard to drag yourself into the rink and onto the ice for practice how can you expect your players to be engaged and motivated? We have a few tricks to keep everyone excited about practice. Sometimes we'll pump music over the PA system to get players moving. Or we'll start practice with a small area game to get the competitive juices flowing.
